Induction Modules

Insight has six free induction modules to orient new staff to the alcohol and drug sector. They are recommended for new alcohol and drug staff as well as practitioners who come into contact with AOD clients, including mental health clinicians and hospital based staff. These modules are freely available to both government and non-government workers.

It is recommended that each module be completed in order.

Psychoactives
Understanding Psychoactive Drugs

This module aims to provide an introductory knowledge base in relation to psychoactive drugs, drug use and misuse. The objectives for this module are to: outline how drugs function in the body, identify different drug classifications, identify routes of drug administration and describe common drugs and their effects.

Micro-counselling Skills

The aim of this module is to introduce health workers to the knowledge and skills required when communicating and counselling people with AOD problems. The objectives for this module are to; identify the attributes of an effective counsellor, outline the basic micro-counselling skills used in communication, and recognise common blocks to communication.

AODCA
AOD Clinical Assessment

The aim of the AOD Clinical Assessment module is to provide health workers with the knowledge required to conduct an AOD assessment with clients who are experiencing AOD problems. The module will also introduce health workers to a number of standardised assessment tools available. Motivational Interviewing

The aim of the Motivational Interviewing (MI) module is to provide health workers with the knowledge to assist their clients move through the cycle of change while addressing their problematic drug and alcohol use.
